Woo hoo, says Beel. A fish festival. Brazil. Way cool!
The Barcelos Festival of Ornamental Fish, AKA Festival do Peixe Ornamental de Barcelos, was established in 1994. It is held in Barcelos, Brazil, usually during the last week of January. The festival will be held in early February this year.
The festival highlights the culture and products of the area- especially ornamental (i.e., aquarium) fish. The export of ornamental fishes, especially the cardinal is an important local source of income, and there is an entire industry devoted to capturing fish for the aquarium trade.
One of the most commonly captured, and exported, fish is the cardinal tetra Paracheirodon axelrodi.
There is music and art at the festival and, apparently, some dancing.
Brazilian music and dancing is intense! Woo hoo, says Beel.
